Mental Health Respite

Program Overview

Brooks Respite is a short-term, voluntary crisis stabilization program for adults experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis. Brooks crisis stabilization is an alternative to inpatient hospitalization. The program is designed to identify goals, stabilize the current crisis, and develop a community support plan to promote ongoing recovery after discharge. Individuals are referred through their therapist, physician, community crisis teams, and emergency room.

Who We Serve

Brooks Respite is dedicated to the health care needs of individuals in Central Oregon and surrounding areas. We serve a diverse population with a variety of healthcare concerns. Brooks Respite serves adult individuals who are experiencing an emotional and/or psychiatric crisis. We focus on providing integrated treatment services, which concentrated on the whole health and wellness of individuals. Our primary emphasis is providing interventions and skills necessary to overcome barriers and promote crisis stabilization.

What to Bring

To make yourself as comfortable as possible during your time at Brooks, we suggest packing a few important things, including:

  • A few sets of comfortable clothes, including sweatshirts and slip-on shoes
  • Enough supply of any prescriptions in the bottles they come in
  • Your ID and insurance card if you have one
  • Basic toiletries, including toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash
  • All your contact information, such as an emergency contact, primary care physician information, etc.
  • Note: Cell phone use is not permitted. All electronics will be locked and not accessible during your stay.
  • Your favorite pillow and blanket
  • Good reading material, your favorite DVDs or any hobby materials
  • Cigarettes for smoking in designated areas
    • NOTE: Vape pens and e-cigarettes are NOT permitted for use at Brooks.
  • No wireless internet access available

Visiting hours are 6pm-8pm.

Program Philosophy

We believe that the individuals we serve are people first. Brooks Respite and Recovery Center looks at the person first, while focusing on the person’s strengths, goals, and preferences. We understand that mental health difficulties and addiction to substances profoundly affects a person’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. These health issues may impact personal happiness and interpersonal relationships. Stabilization begins with learning to understand and cope with symptoms related to mental illness and addiction. Our goal is to help you regain independence and enhance your total wellness. We hope you find your stay here meaningful and encourage you to use the opportunity acquire necessary skills to overcome stressors, triggers, and symptoms related to your illness.

Treatment and Discharge Planning

If you have ever played a Rubik’s Cube, you know that it is important to focus on all six sides. Your health is no different. Humans are complex and it is important to address your whole health. This may include physical, mental, addictions, dental, and other areas. We strive to assist you to improve not only your mental health, but your overall wellness.

At Brooks, we assist you to identify and overcome barriers. Discharge planning begins at admission and is highly integrated throughout your treatment plan. Your goals, barriers, and psychiatric stabilization plan will remain the primary focus throughout your stay. The length of stay is typically short-term and varies upon multiple factors. Length of stay is typically determined by a therapist and/or treatment team recommendation. We expect that you participate in Brooks treatment activities in order to meet your goals and obtain adequate stabilization. It is our hope that you discharge with an inclusive plan and resources that support you to better manage your overall wellness.

Your established treatment provider(s) will be notified of your admission. We encourage your treatment team to be highly involved in your treatment and discharge planning at Brooks.

Length of Stay

Admission to Brooks Respite is short-term. The primary purpose is to obtain psychiatric stabilization, develop a discharge plan, and continue treatment within an outpatient or other similar programs. Therefore, the typical length of stay ranges from 4 to 7 days.
